Nuclear Survival in
New York

This is the nuclear target map for New York, but remember, fallout can go anywhere or everywhere (and probably will). After you have looked at this map look at the Information for New York that follows it.

This link will take you back to the Index of all the States

Nuclear Weapon Target Map for New York (FEMA-196/September 1990)New York targets

UPDATE to Target Information!!!

Information for New York

This link will take you back to the Index of all the States

It is recommended that you go through the following 10 steps in studying about the nuclear threat to New York.

1. Look at the State Map above to see the target nuclear areas in New York.

2. Look at the general expected fallout map to see where New York
(according to the prevailing wind pattern)
gets fallout from other states.

3. If the state that you live in is anywhere EAST of any of the following 6 states in the prevailing wind pattern then look at the states in RED on the INDEX of STATES for

  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Nebraska
  • Missouri
  • Colorado

  • These six states contain what is called DENSE PACK which I explain on each of those states pages. UNDERSTAND that the wind pattern COULD at that time be something other than the "prevailing" wind pattern.

    4. Bookmark the present URL or make a copy of this present address so that you can come back to it after going to

    Blast Mapper.

This mapper is on someone else's web site so that you will need to save this address in order to return here if your back button doesn't work. However, you want to be sure to go the mapper site and calculate the damage to probable targets (cities) around you.

    5. Memorize the THREE top rules for survival. They are:

  • Number One - Get out of the cities!

  • Number Two - Get out of the cities!

  • Number Three - Get out of the cities!

  • 6. The follow-on rules are:
  • a. Have a shelter
  • b. Work with a group (you are going to need the manpower, brainpower, and skillpower).
  • c. Stock supplies.

    7. My Survival Web Page contains links to lots of other information such as free books to download about nuclear survival, links to plans for building shelters, and even free consultation about building a shelter.

    8. If you are SUPER concerned about nuclear survival you might consider joining the

    Ark Two Community.

    9. If you like, you can look at our Honor List for groups that we know of that have an existing rural location. Most of these, however, have no direct interest or preparation in regards to nuclear survival. At the bottom of this page is a Directory of our contacts in New York. Many of the local entries for states were listed because of their Y2K concerns and may not have any nuclear concerns.

    10. And finally, if you wish to be on the mailing list for my irregular newsletter in which I analyze current events in regards to the nuclear threat, you can sign-up here:

    Adirondack Herbs

Three farms, 30 miles apart, in the Adirondacks near Sacandaga Lake, 210 acres altogether. We grow medicinal herbs, produce tea bags, sell to health food stores, build wood-fired water heaters.

Minimum seventeen hours of work/week; any additional optional work counts toward land ownership and profit shares. Other options: start your own business, join a cooperative business, get an outside job. No cash contributions expected: you get a job, you keep your money. We have a good library, piano, sailboats, windsurfer, soon a hang glider, an ultralight. We are very interested in bees, flywheels, alternative energy vehicles, small airships, steel fiber reinforced ferrocement, aquaculture, and winter ice refrigeration.

We prefer using dumped or surplus materiel, such as paper, envelopes, lumber, steel, bananas with brown spots. We'd rather pick firewood at the town dump than cut down trees. We respect all religions/spiritual paths, propose herbal medicine as an adjuvant rather than an alternative to modern medicine. We take very seriously environmental degradation, the destruction of indigenous cultures, cruelty against humans and animals, television, waste, war, peace, and science. We take a bit less seriously astrologers, therapists, political correctness, the New Age, disco, and the New World Order, by which we mean that astrologers, numerologists, kinesiologists, iridologists, and even phrenologists, ought to expect some good humored kidding if they come here. SASE requested.

    242. Birdsfoot Farm

    Birdsfoot Farm

Birdsfoot Farm is a consensus based agricultural community, established in 1972. We are located in a rural area between the St. Lawrence River and the Adirondack Mountains. In recent years we have averaged 5-9 adult members with several children. We envision expansion in membership, including children and elders. Our population swells each growing season as we host several interns who come to learn about organic farming and community life. We grow much of our food and strive to live a sustainable lifestyle. In addition to farming, work is underway to start an alternative elementary school and some members work off the farm.

Our 73-acre farm has fertile loam, woods, a stream, two barns, a large community house, three smaller houses, a school building, and several other structures. The land and buildings are owned by the community. The vegetable business is a separate partnership composed of several community members. New members have a year trial period. We each pay monthly "rent" for living expenses, purchase equity in the property, and buy our food together.

We are concerned with problems of sexism, racism, violence and environmental destruction. We care a lot about each other, and find time for many kinds of sharing--such as communal meals, group work, rituals, parties, etc. Each person follows his/her own spiritual path.

If you would like more information about our community or internship program, please send a note about yourself and a SASE.

    243. Common Place Land Co-op

    Common Place Land Co-op

CPLC is a 432 acre rural land trust located in the rolling hills of central New York State. We are 20 adults and 10 children, and are actively seeking new members. We expect to evolve into a small-scale community of 35-40 households, aiming at greater food and energy self-sufficiency. Twelve homesteads have been created on the land, and the farmhouse serves as transitional housing.

Over 20 years we have come to agreement on 11 core ideals which define and guide our community, including land stewardship and trust, economic self-reliance, diversity, consensus decision making, community participation, and voluntary simplicity. Members have diverse views. As a community we are not affiliated with any political group or religious organization. Our varied individual interests include: activism, organic gardening, alternative energy, attachment parenting, homeschooling, the arts, earth celebrations, spirituality, natural healing, native cultures, home birth, and sustainable forestry.

Our decision-making process consists of two meetings each month. We work together to insure a cohesive community that inhabits the land and preserves its integrity and resources.
